RTR to Perform an Independent Test and Evaluation of Border Wait Technologies

In support of Customs and Border Protection, RTR Technologies has been selected to assist the bi-national Border Wait Time Working (BWT) Group in its efforts to evaluate the use of technology at U.S.-Canadian border crossings.  The Border Wait Time Working Group consists of U.S. and Canadian transportation and border agencies.

In conjunction with SAIC and Delcan, RTR will conduct an Independent Test and Evaluation (IT&E) of automated wait time technologies on the US-Canadian Border at two crossings.   RTR is principally responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of four of today’s most advanced transportation technologies deployed to date.  RTR has conducted similar studies for Customs and Border Protection and US-VISIT and continues to be an industry leader in evaluating land and airport border operations and independent verification and validation of services, as required by the federal government.

RTR will evaluate four technologies examining their operational and effectiveness and suitability under live operating conditions.  The technologies being evaluated include:

  • Bluetooth Technologies
  • Radar Technologies
  • Digital Magnometers
  • Smart Phone Application

RTR will work in cooperation with members of the BWT Work Group to conduct the testing in July of 2010 in Blaine, WA and Buffalo, NY.  The results of the study will be utilized to assess the feasibility and functionality of border wait time technologies to be installed on the US-Canadian Border.
